Mountain Gorillas are a unique species most liked in Uganda due to research putting it that most visitors to Uganda come with interest of seeing these shy endangered Mountain Gorillas.
Uganda is ranked to be hosting almost half of the World’s mountain gorilla population in its two major national parks named Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Mgahinga Gorilla National Park and today we have like 18 gorilla families that are open to gorilla tours in Uganda.
These two national parks are both found in the western part of Uganda bordering each other with Bwindi Impenetrable National Park hosting most part of Uganda’s gorilla population with over eighteen habituated gorilla families for trekking and research, out of the thirteen gorilla families one is used for research and the others are for trekking.
These Gorilla families are grouped in four sectors named Rushaga, Ruhija, Buhoma and Nkuringo sector with each sector having more than two gorilla families apart from Nkuringo sector which has only one gorilla family.
As far as Uganda’s tourism it’s characterized with both Low and high season, during high season there is a lot of travelers visiting Uganda’s top major destinations and in the low season rate of travelers is very low, the months for low season include April, May and November and the rest of the months are for high season.
Seeing mountain gorillas in Uganda requires you to buy a gorilla permit which issues you permission for the gorilla trekking activity, this permit is booked in advance such that it is processed in time before your travel dates.
In the recent years Uganda Wildlife Authority used to give discounted offers for its clients on gorilla permits and it was costing $600 USD per person in the high season plus a discounted offer of $450 USD per person which was offered to clients during low season.
For the year 2018 a serious notice was issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority that the discounted gorilla permit offer is no more and now the permit goes for $600 USD per person whether high season or low season.
How to book for your permit? The authority of issuing gorilla permits in Uganda is only authorized to Uganda Wildlife Authority.
Gorilla permits are booked in advance before your travel dates such that it’s processed in time and most times its more convenient and secure when you book your permit with a local tour operator than booking it directly to avoid scenarios of booking with fake organizations, reserving for a difficult gorilla family which is too far, termination of information and more, when booking for this permit, trekking dates and passport details of the client are required.
After booking your gorilla trekking permit with Uganda Wildlife Authority through Nature Adventure Uganda in advance you will find it on arrival and when you fail to turn up for your trekking dates this permit will be invalid to be used by another person and your $600 USD paid is non-refundable.
